Kicking off this night for my first visit to The Well Studio was the killer hardcore trio LUELLA. It’s been a while since their last offering, and I was immediately reminded of how fucking hard they go.
Punishing intensity on the drums brings the headbanging. Sometimes fast and sometimes thick chugging, this dichotomy fueled the set.
Two guitars to provide the noise and no bass, though none was needed. Fantastic vocals with a deep growl scream were all on point for this one, and the good-sized opening crowd was engaged, signs of things to come.
Next was the trio/quartet AFTER THE FOX, making their second offering. It’s a high-energy rock with a ton of crowd engagement.
Starting the set with two covers was an odd choice, especially when their originals were so fucking solid. Great drums kept the pace; the lead singer was all the energy, coming into the crowd and mixing up often.
Following it was the revamped KIDZ HELP FONE featuring a new drummer who was an absolute beast on the kit. Already a high-energy band, this drummer brought another level as they invoked Animal in their thrashing.
Their hardcore offerings were all retooled and sounded killer. Cathartic screaming vocals out front and great guitar licks all combined into their best offering yet.
Always been a fan, and the intensity of their songs has increased, delivering a sonic explosion that was a delight to bounce around to.
Finally, and for the second time in two weeks, MEDIASLAVES kicked my ass. Topping off the killer lineup, this trio set the place on fire with a ferocious offering that they burned through at a murderous pace.
With a virtuoso on drums leading the charge, their thick hardcore was so fucking tight and focused. They never fail to have me flying all over, and despite the small space, I was weaving in and around the flailing/smashing crowd as they moved my feet like few others can.
Dug the new space, and the sound was great for the DIY setup, a testament to the sound tech tonight. A killer lineup from Civil Decay, and stoked for more from them.
He was delighted.
