23-11-04 | Bully’s Studios | Tickling Grandma, Brain Dust, Cheap Flavor, Silent Kitty Attack

Kicking off this Saturday evening at Bullys Studios was a duo from the bowels of the lower mainland, Langley, TICKLING GRANDMA. They dished out a killer dose of high-energy jams centered on the rhythm, designed to make one move.

A guitar and drums, with both on vocals and there was a pre-recorded track that had synth/bass, atmospheric shit that thickened up their sound. They also employed their own light show, which was trippy as hell.

They had a little rapping in there, which worked really well, and fuck me if I wasn’t headbanging to their cover of “La Vida Loca.”

Next was the first-ever offering from the quartet BRAIN DUST, who killed with their blend of hard-rock/metal with varying tempos. It had me going between full-blown flailing and severe headbanging.

The lead singer reminded me of John Garcia from KYUSS, while the backup singer gave us a metal voice with a great scream. Killer bass riffs courtesy of the five-string killer banging the fuck out their bass.

Next was a highly anticipated offering from a band I have been chasing for a while, the phenomenal psycho-blues trio CHEAP FLAVOR. It’s rare for a band to fly into one of my favorites after just one show, but I was smitten by the end of their high-octave, sweaty set.

Punk energy and intensity meet insanely sped-up blues. Dash in confidence and swagger, and you have CHEAP FLAVOR.

Featuring an absolutely killer rhythm section, the songs were filled with exciting and creative drum work and funky bass lines, all at breakneck speeds. The lead singer was in their element, and we all felt their passion. Fucking killer.

Finally, it was SILENT KITTEN ATTACK with a dose of ska rock that was about as high energy as possible. The lead singer, wearing their Britney mic, constantly moved around the room, interacting with the crowd with all the theatrics and energy.

They had a trumpet and a trombone, providing that ska sound, with a little Latin, some rapping and the songs were a tonne of fun from beginning to end.

He was once again pleased with the evening’s offerings.

Infect the others
