24-01-11 | Red Gate | Pinch, Idle Lane, Queens Park

Starting the night off at Red Gate, the quartet PINCH presented their first offering, and what a blast it was. There was a solid turnout for Thursday night, with the first snowfall of the year always causing chaos in the shitshow that is Vancouver.

They dosed out punk/rock with many fun kicks behind it. Great energy and vibes from the drummer and bassist.

The whole band was dressed in white, was comfortable, and had a blast up there. All added to the entire sound that was tight and bouncy, so much flailing.

Killer drums. Tight and thumpy with great fills. Definitely had my number for the whole set. Fucking rad.

Took the good-sized crowd half the set to get into it; even then, they barely moved.

Next was the first of two offerings from the island; the quartet IDLE LANE and their solid grungy rock jams got my feet moving. The fun bass riffs and simple crashy drums got a hold of me many times. Good shit.

The lead singer was fun to watch up there. There were parts where they sounded precisely like Billy Corgan, something I hadn’t heard before. You could close your eyes at some points and swear you were listening to a PUMPKINS song.

From where I was flailing, the lead guitar was quiet and hard to hear during their shredding moments, which was unfortunate as they killed.

The crowd had moved back twenty feet and was immobile. I really don’t get you sometimes, Vancouver. No band likes to play to twenty feet of empty space.

The second visitor from the island closed out this evening of what turned out to be only three instead of four (snow!), a quartet bringing us a killer tight set, QUEENS PARK, who I swear I have seen before though have no record of it.

They were dosing out grungy, punk, and garage rock. The bass was smoking and clicking with the crashy drums to get me all the way flailing. I loved the grooves they got going.

The lead singer was engaging and comfortable up there; I would love to see them with a more populated and engaged crowd.

While He was angered by the lack of crowd engagement, He was pleased with the proffered offerings on this night.

Infect the others
