While I arrived a couple of songs in, it was CURVES in full swing as I joined the floor. There was a sparse crowd for this Sunday night at Red Gate, but those there were grooving.
CURVES offered a lovely dose of upbeat indie jams that were fun to bop around to. The lead singer was charming, seemingly relaxed, and enjoying themselves.
Groovy bass riffs had the ass moving, and while nothing in their offering broke the mold, the energy was there, and the songs were fun; just the right amount of band to start the night right.
Next, the last-minute addition after the original band dropped out was the trio MUPPET BOYS, who gave my earholes a fabulous dose of surf/garage rock with blues and rockabilly influence throughout.
It was a little sloppy, though well within the genre parameters, and it was all catchy fun times. Love the guitar work, especially the little solos—so much passion.
The bassist sang back up, adding that extra dimension that worked well in contrast, and they brought the rockabilly vibe to several songs.
The crowd bounced to this one; their fan base came out awesomely after it was last minute.
Finally, the band that brought me here and the seventh first offering in a row is the fantastic trio PALE NORTH. I ticked off another band I have been tracking for a while, and I am immensely impressed with what was proffered.
A dancy dream-pop vibe with a touch of emo, they crafted an excellent set of ebbs and flows, bouncing one moment and grooving the next.
Excellent guitar work full of passion and noise and superb bass work throughout, but golly was those drums that had my number.
One of my favorites on the scene -they also play in TRANSISTOR RIOT – they are so damn creative and talented. Always playing what the song needed, never indulging or showboating, and technically on point the entire time, they had my feet on lock, moving me all over.
He was pleased with tonight’s offerings.
