23-09-16 | Red Gate | Floating Faces, Habit, Kids on Fire, Mean Bikini

Kicking off this Saturday night at Red Gate was the always killer FLOATING FACES. This trio brings so much fire and energy to the stage they opened this night off beautifully.

Their noise garage rock has all the distortion and noise bundled into a fucking missile of pure heart-attack energy that this cold crowd soaked up. A full-blown mass of humanity pit opened up several times.

They are such a blast of a band, and I love them more every time I see them. Their new songs were heavy yet still highly energized; I’m excited to see what this band will bring.

Next was the third offering from the quintet HABIT, who dished out a dose of hard rock bordering on metal with those distorted guitars and screaming lyrics.

They were loud and energized, keeping that energy going. Fast enough to bounce around but slow enough to get some good headbanging.

The drums were so subtle, taking the less is more approach, never an excessive fill or taking the spotlight, but always being where they were needed and never a beat more.

Next was the touring band KIDS ON FIRE with an on-brand firestorm of a show; pure punk poured into our earballs. With tight as fuck drums providing a beautiful rock-solid foundation for the rest of them.

An uber interactive bassist, laying down fast riffs while bouncing around in the pit with us that ramped up as the set went on.

They were impressively tight. They play at breakneck speeds but nary a falter the whole set; it elevates their sound immensely when they are all on dimes. Killer show.

Finally, I was graced with an offering from MEAN BIKINI, who I have been looking forward to catching for a while, and they absolutely delivered a killer performance.

Fast-driving, thrashy punk, a sonic assault of the most beautiful sort. Drums were a constant attack; so much crashing and smashing and bomb-ass bass riffs between the two had me locked in.

On a night full of murderers, they were one hell of a closer, elevated to a must-see again and soon.

He was pleased with tonight’s offerings.

Infect the others
