23-09-08 | The Wise | Rong, Blacked Out, The Corps

Kicking off this lovely Friday evening at The Wise were the delicious offerings from one of my favs, RONG, with their riff-heavy punk jams to stir the crowd.

It’s been several months since their last offering, so seeing them at Wise Hall was extra awesome. Everything sounded great, of course; it was the drums courtesy of the masterful Jen Foster, who always gets my number.

Tight and expressive, bouncing around to them is all about having a fucking blast, and one adds in the gorgeous scream on lead vocals, and it’s just a flailers heaven.

It’s a good-sized crowd to start, though with the Outhouse Fest on Pender going on, many of the crowd who usually attend are probably there. Nonetheless, they had the front few rows of folks moving to their infectious and imminently danceable jams by the end.

Next was the second offering from BLACKED OUT, who put forth a serving of delectable hard punk jams that got the floor moving. Always thick and fast, they were nothing but energy-blasting us flailers nonstop.

Having missed the opening couple of songs, it was going full force when I joined the pit, which was stirring nicely. Everything coming off the stage was fast and loud, so amazing to move to.

The drums set a killer pace, and the bass kept up nicely, with the guitars making all the noises overtop. They orchestrated the exact set I was sent out to collect; it is such a killer hard/heavy punk offering.

Finally, my night finishes with an offering from one of Vancouver’s best pop punk bands, the quartet THE CORPS, with their endless supply of bouncing and flailing happy jams.

The crowd saved their energy for this one, and the entire front area exploded in a cacophony of movement.

Wearing their power rings, these defenders of sector 2814 showed us that if enemies of the earth are defeated by killer music, we are well protected.

They were fucking tight and constant, with only a few moments sprinkled in for breath-catching. Lead singer and their classic pop-punk voice leading the way, they put on a hell of a show to appease Him.

Infect the others
