Arriving late to LanaLou’s, it was the fantastic quintet WACK who started my day off with their sexy funk offering, amped up a little to fit in with the Punk Brunch put on by Cross Contaminated Productions on the last Sunday of every month.
WACK laid down the funkiest good time I have had in a while. The drums played various exciting and different things, making each song fresh and delicious.

The bass followed suit with all the funk. Oozing sexy riffs and fills. I constantly found my attention drawn to that bass when they would fly off some little piece of sexy. God damn, what a great band to move to; I love the funk.
Closing out the first half of my day at LanaLou’s, BLOOD OF THE PHOENIX brought the metal to my earholes. Tight, thick, and loud, they offer their best yet.
A strong voice up front, bringing an intense scream, they can hold beautifully and employed often. The rest of the band was on their game and delivered a memorable set.
Much to my delight, they covered ‘Hooker with a Penis’ and killed it. Covering a TOOL song is tricky; you must nail it or fuck off. Their drummer was fire as they maintained the high energy. A fantastic choice for a cover and impressive as fuck.

After a few hours on the drive, I was back at LanaLou’s, where it was an impromptu jam by members of the bands as one of the initial four bands dropped out, allowing an ebb and flow of spontaneous music that clicked more often than not. Good times.
Next, it was ROUGAROUX dosing out their offering of dark punk, full of beautiful solos and tasty riffs; it is always enjoyable.
They played a new song with a RATM vibe, and I was digging it. This band just keeps hitting better with every new song, fucking killed it.
Following was a second offering from NUMB DAME, who offered up fun indie punk, which was fun and bouncy.
They had a song where an audience member came up and read a list of terrible band names. At the same time, they played progressively louder/harder music. Fun times.
He was pleased with today’s offerings.
